Metcalfe’s character, Trace Riley, will make his exit early in season 5. The show is about to begin filming the fifth season in Vancouver with a likely summer premiere on the network. The show, based on novels by Sheryl Woods follows the O’Brien family and focuses on Abby O’Brien (Meghan Ory), a divorced mother of two who returns home and falls back in love with her high school sweetheart, musician Trace Riley. The show also stars Treat Williams, Barbara Niven, Emilie Ullerup and Brendan Penny. In a statement to Deadline, Hallmark Channel stated, “A new season of Hallmark Channel’s highly popular scripted series, Chesapeake Shores, is returning this summer. Jesse Metcalfe, who plays Trace Riley, has decided to leave the show. His character’s storyline will wrap up early in Season Five. Jesse is a valued member of the Crown Media family; we look forward to continuing to work with him on projects, including original movies on Hallmark Channel, as well as his Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ movie series, Martha’s Vineyard Mysteries. In addition, we are currently in development on another movie in the series.” A new Martha’s Vineyard Mysteries movie will premiere on May 16. Fans have been waiting over a year for the new season of Chesapeake Shores after Abby and Trace appeared to finally reunite after spending time in other relationships last season. With Metcalfe’s character leaving the show that was mainly centered around Abby and Trace’s relationship, does this spell the end for the series? How will Riley exit the show? Will his character be killed off? Or will he go on tour, never to return to Chesapeake Shores? We’ll have to wait and see. Next, Take a Trip Down Memory Lane With a Look Back at Chesapeake Shores
