The model, 57, took to Instagram over the weekend to show that she voted early for the upcoming midterm elections on Nov. 8, sharing a selfie to show off the “I Voted” sticker on her forehead. In the pic, the blonde bombshell appears to be smiling from outside a polling place while giving a thumbs up to the camera. Porizkova, who was born in Czechoslovakia before moving to Sweden, decided to use her personal experience to share an important message about democracy in her caption while encouraging her followers to get out and vote. “Growing up under communism and under the thumb of the Soviet occupation, I’m well aware of the privilege that is democratic voting,” she wrote. “I have voted in every election since I became an American Citizen.” “I cast an early vote (since I’m not available on November 8th) and I’m very grateful to all the volunteers working on the weekend,” she added, before urging her followers to use their own voices. “We do have a say in how our country is run, don’t waste your vote!” After initially sharing the post, Porizkova later updated her caption, noting that she has been getting hate comments for speaking out about the importance of voting, despite keeping her message nonpartisan. “Sometimes I post to provoke thought and discussion. But here, remarkably and disappointingly, I made a point of keeping it neutral politically. And yet—am getting some rather mean and obnoxious comments already. Are we no longer to behave like humans when it comes to politics?” Election Day is coming up on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
