That’s the question that Oprah Winfreyputs to Meghan Markle in the teaser trailer for their upcoming interview, referring to the Duchess of Sussex’s two years as a senior member of the royal family, before she and her husbandPrince Harrystepped back from their roles and relocated to Montecito, California. The years since Meghan and Harry’s seemingly fairytale wedding in May 2018 have given rise to many such burning questions. What was it really like for Meghan as the House of Windsor’s newest princess—an American and a mixed-race one at that? Did the royal family fail to protect her, and leave her at the mercy of a vicious and often racist British press? What would she say if she was given the opportunity to tell her side of the story? It looks as though we’ll finally get some answers to those questions. “I just want to make it clear to everybody there is no subject that’s off-limits,” Oprah declares, as Meghan—looking very Princess-Diana-on-Panorama-esque with her black-rimmed eyes—watches her with an enigmatic smile and with the air of a woman who is ready, finally, to speak. However, we’ll have to wait until Sunday to hear what she has to say. The interview will focus mainly on Meghan, but Harry will also make an appearance. In one clip, he is seated beside his pregnant wife and holding her hand. “My biggest concern was history repeating itself,” he tells Oprah, most likely referring to his late mother’s treatment by the press, which culminated in her death after being pursued at high speed by the paparazzi. “I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting her talking to you with my wife by my side,” he says, adding that he “can’t imagine” what it must have been like for Diana to go through the same thing, all alone. “You’ve said some pretty shocking things here,” Oprah says at one point. On Wednesday night, March 3, CBS released another trailer for the special, in which Meghan tells Oprah: “I don’t know how [the palace] could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent when there is an active role that the Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.” For her part, Meghan looks absolutely stunning in a black silk dress by Armani ($4700), featuring a splash of white detail on one shoulder and a belted waist. No less dazzling is her jewelry: her triple aquamarine necklace by Pippa Small ($2145) and her blue topaz earrings by Birks. On her wrist is a diamond tennis bracelet that she has worn on previous occasions and which belonged to Princess Diana. Add to that her soft updo and lined eyes, and you have yourself what’s known in fashion circles as a look. Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Special airs on CBS at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 7.
