Old faces and new will grace the streets of Hope Valley and we have your cast breakdown of the When Calls the Heart cast you’ll be seeing during season 9 on Hallmark Channel.
Who’s in the When Calls the Heart cast for season 9?
Erin Krakow (Elizabeth Thatcher Thornton)
Elizabeth Thatcher was a woman of means who came to Hope Valley (then Coal Valley) to take an open teaching position in town. Unaccustomed to life in the country, she learned how to be a pioneer woman as she was romanced by the local Mountie, Jack Thornton. The two would later marry but happiness was fleeting as Jack died in the line of duty shortly after their nuptials. Learning she was with child, Elizabeth later gave birth to their son, (Little) Jack. A few years have passed since Jack’s death and Elizabeth is ready to open her heart up to love again. Luckily, their are two would-be suitors ready to woo her. Erin Krakow is also an executive producer on the show. She can also be seen in the Hallmark Channel films Sense, Sensibility & Snowmen; A Summer Romance and the upcoming It Was Always You.
Kevin McGarry (Nathan Grant)
With the opening left by Jack’s death, Nathan Grant galloped into town to take over the Mountie duties at the Hope Valley post. He’s looking to put down roots mainly to provide stability for his niece, Allie, for whom he has custody after her parents passed away. He’s been shy about showing his attraction to Elizabeth but recently made his feelings known. But is he too late? McGarry is also a regular on Heartland, the longest running one-hour scripted series in Canadian television history. He can be seen in Hallmark Channel movies such as Christmas Scavenger Hunt and Winter Love Story.
Chris McNally (Lucas Bouchard)
He’s a successful businessman, world traveler and handsome gent. Lucas Bouchard seems to have it all—including some secrets in his past. He’s made his attraction to Elizabeth obvious to everyone and his romantic gestures have not gone unnoticed, but will he be able to win her heart? McNally can be seen in Hallmark Channel movies such as Sailing into Love, A Winter Princess and Snowkissed.
Martin Cummins (Henry Gowen)
Henry Gowen is the man you love to hate. Up until recently, Gowen was seen as the gruff, unyielding businessman who valued dollars over people. Always the entrepreneur, he opened up an oil business, but by the end of last season, he had to sell his faltering business to Lucas. What’s up next for Gowen is anybody’s guess. Cummins is also part of the cast Riverdale as former sheriff Tom Keller. He can also be seen on Netflix’s Away and the Hallmark Channel movie, The Christmas Shepherd.
Pascale Hutton, Kavan Smith (Rosemary and Lee Coulter )
Once hated by fans because she was an ex-girlfriend of Mountie Jack, Rosemary won over Hearties after she fell in love with Lee Coulter, an entrepreneur and businessman who immediately fell for Rosemary upon arriving in Hope Valley. Many times the two serve as comic relief on the show (with Lee almost always being the straight man). Rosemary never fails to remind anyone who’ll listen that she is an actress or that she has a great idea that will turn things around. While there are a lot of laughter with the Coulters, there is also a seriousness to their relationship, specifically with their struggles to conceive. Will this be the year they finally start a family? Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith have starred in several movies together. Hutton can be seen in the Hallmark Channel movies The Perfect Bride and My One and Only while Smith has starred in Love on the Menu (which he co-wrote), Wedding Bells and The Irresistible Blueberry Farm.
Jack Wagner (Bill Avery)
Bill Avery is the regional judge for Hope Valley and was formerly a forensic investigator. Wagner has had long runs on shows like The Bold and The Beautiful, MelrosePlace and General Hospital. He can be seen in the Hallmark Channel Wedding March series of movies.
Andrea Brooks (Faith Carter)
Much like Rosemary, Faith was once hated by fans of the show for she befriended Mountie Jack and was seen as a possible thorn in Elizabeth’s side. Last season, Faith left to attend medical school in Chicago (in reality Brooks was pregnant) but this season she will return to Hope Valley, hopefully with a medical degree in hand. Andrea Brooks is also part of the cast of Supergirl and has had supporting roles in no less than a half dozen Hallmark Channel films.
Jaeda Lily Miller (Allie Grant)
Allie Grant is Nathan’s precocious niece. She always seems to be stirring up some kind of trouble, whether it’s intentional or not. Her uncle is her legal guardian after both her parents died. Miller has been in nine Hallmark Channel movies! She also voices Mindy on the PBS series Ready, Jet, Go!
Hyland Goodrich (Little Jack Thornton)
Goodrich takes over the role of little Jack Thornton from twins, Lincoln and Gunnar Taylor, who played Baby Thornton for three seasons. This is Goodrich’s first professional role.
Hrothgar Matthews (Ned Yost)
Ned Yost owns the general store in town which also houses the telephone switchboard. Think of him as Hope Valley’s Mr. Olson.
Kayla Wallace (Fiona Miller)
Fiona came to town with the telephone company to help set up lines of communication in Hope Valley. After she was unceremoniously fired she decided to stay in town and bought out the local barbershop.
Ben Rosenbaum (Mike Hickam)
Hickam is the town’s everyman—and the new mayor! He seems to have worked for everyone in town at some point. Mike is the steadfast bachelor in town and seems more likely to fall down a vent shaft than to fall in love.
Loretta Walsh (Florence Blakely)
Florence is the town’s gossip and part-time switchboard operator though she’ll likely get a promotion now that Fiona is no longer employed by the telephone company.
Johannah Newmarch (Molly Sullivan)
One of the coal mining widows from the first season, the redheaded Molly hangs out a lot with Florence. Now that Florence is married to Ned and they have two businesses to run, will Molly being working the town switchboard?
Viv, Vienna, and Elias Leacock; Natasha Burnett (The Canfield Family)
The Canfields are new family coming to Hope Valley in season 8. Joseph (Viv Leacock), his wife Minnie (Natasha Burnett), and their kids, Angela (Vienna Leacock) and Cooper (Elias Leacock) come to town in hopes of buying the gas station there. Minnie will take umbrage with Elizabeth’s teaching methods with Angela. The overprotective mom is such because Angela is visually impaired though we soon learn she is a piano virtuoso.
Amanda Wong (Mei Suo)
Mei Suo rode into town on a brown quarter horse and whooshed past Mountie Nathan who was intrigued by the rider. Upon seeing her at the saloon, he was further intrigued. Mei has come into town to be the new pharmacist at the Yost Pharmacy and Soda Fountain but she appears to be running from something or someone.
